STW and driveblocks jointly Develop AI Assistance System for Mobile Machinery
Driver assistance functions are becoming increasingly important in the operation of innovative mobile machinery, as they enhance both employee safety and work efficiency. However, the growing software complexity in the development process, the necessary integration of artificial intelligence, and longer development cycles present significant challenges. To effectively address these challenges, STW and driveblocks are planning to offer a pre-integrated system product that supports machine manufacturers in implementing intelligent assistance systems.
STW’s HPX.ai-vision serves as the high-performance electronic platform for mobile work machines, forming the system's technological foundation. Depending on the configuration, multiple GMSL2 cameras and LiDAR sensors can be connected to ensure detailed environmental perception. If required, additional Ethernet-based cameras or stereo vision technologies can be integrated to enable advanced process monitoring. These sensors capture the machine's surroundings, providing a dynamic representation for the operator, thus enabling more precise control and superior safety functions.
driveblocks integrates resource-efficient AI models from the driveblocks Autonomy Platform onto the HPX.ai-vision for person and object detection, as well as the 360-degree camera- and LiDAR-based driveblocks Safe-Guard function. This combination enhances safety in demanding operational scenarios while supporting more precise navigation and real-time environmental perception. Through intelligent sensor fusion and AI-driven decision-making, the risk of accidents is minimized, and machine operation is optimized.
The partners aim to support their customers throughout the entire product lifecycle with their comprehensive expertise in electronics, software, and artificial intelligence. From system design and software development to series production and aftermarket support, the joint system product offers a future-proof and scalable solution for machine manufacturers.
With this innovation, STW and driveblocks are paving the way for the world of software-defined machines: surround view, object detection, and emergency braking intervention combined in a single central control unit. The need for multiple individual control units for different assistance functions is eliminated, reducing both system complexity and costs. The pre-integrated system product significantly shortens time-to-market for manufacturers of mobile work machines and is particularly well-suited for applications in agricultural and construction machinery. By combining high-performance computing, sensor technology, and intelligent software, the efficiency and safety of mobile work machines are taken to a new level.
